Special issue on Fiber and Wireless Communications Technologies for 5G and Beyond

2019-02-12
Aims and Scope:Global mobile data traffic has been growing as incredible rates, driven by the ever-increase of the number of wireless devices and the continuous emergence of high-bandwidth applications, e.g. video-on-demand, cloud computing and big data. Future mobile networks (5G and beyond), therefore, require new architectures for both wireless and optical networks to simultaneously address issues of capacity, flexibility and cost. Current research attentions in wireless networks are well on new radio frequency windows (millimetre-wave, sub-THz frequency), massive MIMO, small cells and converged fiber/wireless models for front/back-haul links. On the other hand, optical networks are moving into the direction of cloud-integrated networks supporting from optical access to radio towers for both enterprise and consumer services. Prospective authors of this special issue are invited to submit their unpublished research on new communications and networking technologies for next-generation mobile networks, covering topics ranging from optical core, metro to access networks, from backbone to front/back-hauling and radio access networks.Topics of Interest:The special issue aims to cover topics that include, but not limited to, the following:Information theory and capacity limits for fiber and wireless communicationsSpace-time coding and signal processingNovel modulation and coding techniquesNetwork codingNew detection, equalization, synchronization, and estimation schemesAntenna design, antenna systems and wave propagationLocalization techniquesPhysical layer securityMIMO and multiple antenna systemsMultiple access schemes, multiplexing and detectionRadio over fiber techniquesAnalog/Digital Radio-over-Fiber solutions for 5G communicationsM2M communicationsNovel 5G radio access network (RAN) architecturesSmall cell deployment, femtocells, picocells for dense/ultra-dense systemsAdvanced user terminal relayingCognitive radio and dynamic spectrumVisible light communicationsFree-space optics communicationsMillimeter-wave and sub-THz generations and communicationsConverged fiber/wireless communication models for front- and back-haul linksDigital and electronic subsystemsOptical technologies for wireless networksOptical, photonic and microwave photonic subsystemsPhotonics integrated circuits for fiber and wireless communicationsNonlinear compensation techniques for high speed data transportsArchitectures and software-defined control for access, metro and core Optical access networks for fixed and mobile servicesCloud-integrated optical network architecturesMultiple access schemes for hybrid fiber/wireless networksExperiments and test-bed for 5GCoherent list of topics:Papers must be tailored to the emerging fields of fiber and wireless communication and networking technologies for future mobile networks. The guest editors maintain the right to reject papers they deem to be out of scope of this special issue. Only originally unpublished contributions and invited articles will be considered for this special issue. The papers should be formatted according to REV-JEC's guidelines (http://rev-jec.org/index.php/rev-jec/about/submissions#authorGuidelines).Authors should submit a PDF version of their complete manuscript via REV-JEC's submission site at (http://rev-jec.org/index.php/rev-jec/about/submissions#onlineSubmissions) to the "Special issue FWC5G articles" section under Journal Section according to the timetable below.Important Dates (Tentative):Deadline for submission of manuscript: July 01, 2019Publication of the issue is scheduled for December 01, 2019Acceptance notification: max. 8 weeks from submission dateManuscript submission is open along the year before the deadline.
